Ads are back

Post by ZiN » Mon Nov 12, 2007 12:16 am

As an update, we will reenable ads in the coming hours. They will consist of:

* 1 pop-under ad every 24 hours for logged-in members
* 1 pop-up/pop-under ad every hour for guests
* banner ads in various parts of the forum

They will be annoying.

The money generated will go towards a new server so we can cope with the load.

Cheers.

Ads I can deal with, but I can't deal with not having STF. Bring on the ads, we will live.

Ads are popups are fine if they are needed to keep the site going. I will occassionally click the ads if that'll help out.

Hey there..

I've been having problems tonight with a few sections here on the board re-directing me to this page
http://www.flirtingstudents.com/join.php

It started just accessing the site...right after i logged in, then after jacking my pop-up blocker all the way to high, things were ok for a while, then it started happening again after trying to search, and then after replying (like I am now) to a post.

it's discouraging to say the least. I understand the need for ads, and banner ads are fine, however the pop-up re-directing thing really sucks. it doesn't even open a new window. it 'clicks' on a link and opens in the same window and when you hit the back button it keeps taking me there.

it's not just my computer either, my wife is having the SAME dilemma with the SAME site popping up...

can you help??

thanks in advance and we appreciate all that everyone here does and contributes.

Yea I've been having similar problem's like mike's.Will get redirected, firefox will catch it then it get's through anyway.
then I'll hit the back button,it doesn't work, you have to right click on the back button and go to,say the index.
and sometimes the back button doesn't work when I'm not having problems.I don't know weird. Thanks

Sorry to say that I'm having the same problem. I can't stay on a page for more than a minute without getting whisked away to ad land and never able to return. Banner ads and popups are cool, but ones that take you away from the website you are trying to read....not so much.
The few seconds of the new site that I've seen look great though!

while risking getting that dang flirting thing again, i did manage to his escape while it was 'clicking me through' and I captured this
http://www.incentaclick.com/nclick.php? ... 6&cid=5364
it was in my URL box. I'm using IE 7 and don't have this problem with any other sites.

I hope this helps.
it's almost as though once a page is opened, you hear like 3 clicks and this flirting page pops up.

I'm going to block those ads.

So i need to block:

ttp://track.bigbrandpromotions.com/
ttp://www.flirtingstudents.com/
ttp://web1.brandrewardgroup.com/
ttp://www.fling.com/4/?pr1&id=incentaclick
ttp://www.incentaclick.com/
ttp://www.imediablast.com/

Anything else?

PS: i'm going to sift through the template files aswell, just to make sure it's nothing in there...

People up for a little test follow these instructions...

first set *DO THIS FIRST*
1. Scan your computer with your antivirus and spyware scanner
2. If you don't have one, use an online scan service (bitdefender scans for virusses and spywaer and offers removal aswell)
3. Logout off STF

second set *DO FIRST SET FIRST*
1. Clear your browser cache.
2. Make sure you cleared it!
3. Login STF
4. Browse around a bit on STF
5. If you get redirected post back here with the following info
a) location, b) browser, c) page you were viewing when redirect happened

ADS are disabled, so no redirecting should occur, if it does, it's somethig in the templates.

I just did a search for tycoon. once finished on the first page, i clicked on the 2 at the bottom for the second page. it took me to a 'antivirus 2010' page... i notice the following URL

http://adv.accenthyundai.info/trac/?2&campaign=89841

then quickly took me to this page

http://best-online-antivirus-scanner.in ... try=us&rs=

I have no idea why this would happen.
Just thought I would report it.
thanks
mike

I never had a problem when I was using Firefox, but after switching to Internet Explorer (It works better in Win 7), it seems to happen at least once everytime per session.

Yea im also getting redirected. At times its hard to stay on line. A Few days ago my co worker who introduced me to STF's asked me if I was having problems and saying that he was getting redirected, and now I am getting redirected. SOme of the pages have been chinatv.com or something like that and some yellow page like a yellow book thing. I also see mass pages getting loaded in my lower tool bar it scrolls fast from like crackle or cackle and some other miscl sights. many times there are two-three audio clips going on in the back ground and the only way i can exit out is leaveing stf pages. as I type this i am hearing an adamas family episode playing in the back ground and some thing about vacations also playing.
The only thing you should get with IE 8 = something like this

Pops - up http://ad.z5x.net/rw?title=&qs=iframe3% ... p%3Ff%3D70

All the other complaints, are from PC systems that are allready compromized not updated with service packs or either dont run with IE8.

Or have other crap toolbars installed that interfear with the defaults security settings of IE8.

I can speak with expertise cus I fix windows OS system flaws over 10 years now.

I dont think this should turn into a topic about other spyware or corrupted browsers running and blame STF instead for a popup once every now and then.

Only 2 things you should see when browsing STF forum with IE8 are the link I showed above and some warning prompts u can manually allow disallow.

Nothing major thus.

Anything else on IE 8 your system is allready not set with default IE8 security, imagine if you speak allready with my toolbar bla bla its not IE8 that redirects you.
Remember u can reset IE8 to defaults with 1 push of the button at IE options.
And remove every stupid toolbar you dont use anyways immidiate.
