Lord Anubis RIP

Some threads are just too funny and deserve their place in the history of STF. Others remind us of sad times and others simply are a part of history of the site. Here is a collection of some of these.

Lord Anubis RIP

Post by TomDoe » Mon Feb 06, 2006 1:10 pm

Most you staffers will probably have seen this since its posted in the staff room, but heres a little update for all you other people.

I got this mail today and its confirmed real:
Hello,

My name is PraioS, I was the founder of ShareTheFiles together with 0bjectMa$$, before Lord_Anubis took it over and made it to one of the best ed2k-teams for games out there.

The reason I am emailing you is because you are (or were) one of the best friends of Lord_Anubis, and you did know him well.

It is with great sadness that I am emailing you now on this day. I received word that Lord_Anubis was involved in an accident on Sunday, the 5th of February in the late evening. While I do not want to go into the accident itself (rest assured when I say Lord_Anubis was hit by a car, and that he was dead instantly and did - hopefully - not feel too much pain), I would like to speak to you about who Lord_Anubis was.

Lord_Anubis was a young and energetic man who lived with cancer cells in his body since the age of 16 due to an accident. Ever since he realised his short life-span to come he has been working hard on not only getting to grips with his fate, but also on giving other people with similar illnesses or defects a better time by working as a volunteer in hospitals in the area he lived in as well as in the country he studied.

His step into the ed2k-scene by building up ShareTheFiles (which was not an ed2k-group before that) as well as his reputation in forums and communities made him and the crew very popular in a short time. Thanks to contacts in other p2p-circles he was able to provide games fast to the communities. He then gained recognition on other forum where he finally became a staff member or even administrator or manager.

Lord_Anubis loved the work in the communities, especially No.Swearing!.net, ed2k-it, ShareConnector, DrunkenDonkey, ShareTheFiles and many other sites out there, and his passion for improving the sites and keeping them alive will hopefully long be felt. He had many aspirations and ideas for the sites, alas it is too late now for him to see the changes...

Despite his illness he was a strong person and a good friend to hang out with or to just chat about literally anything you wanted, he was a calm person who never lost focus of what was important to him, not even when he was angered or annoyed at someone. He has inspired a lot of people, not only in the ed2k-communities but also in real life, and his tremendous effort in not only paying his own rent and living expenses, but also his father's and his sister's, should have at least awarded him a medal of some sort.

He had just managed to found his own design agency, which will be now taken over by one of his colleagues, and I do hope that it will persist for a long while still.

Lord_Anubis left the world too soon, too soon for anyone of us to say one last "thank you" for his work he did, too soon to make final arrangements for his family and friends, and as such both me and ObjectMa$$ will make sure that this will be catered for in the future
A sad day for the ed2k scene, all the friends he had online and in real life.
RIP mate, you will be missed!

Oh mighty God, what a shock.

I've been talking with him on IRC just a few weeks back! :(

It was always a pleasure to talk with him, such a cool guy.

May his passage to the after-life be safe and paineless.

..what I feel cannot be really expressed, but here is a try anyway..

earlier posted in FTi..voicing my words here too..
unskinnyboy wrote:Today is a dark day.

I just cannot concentrate on anything I tried to do today and been thinking about this all along. I am hoping against hope that this is a cruel joke and that he didn't die, but rather just wanted to make believe everyone he is dead and hence totally disappear from the ed2k scene. So I am still in denial..

If this is true, then I am deeply saddened by this. My memories and associations with L_A dates back to the old ShareConnector days where we both moderated. He was a passionate man and always stood up for what he believed was right. I have seen him engaged in passionate word wars with others (even we have disagreed on a few points and debated about it), but there was never a malicious bone in his body. He was the one I could always run to for help and never have I got turned back.

He always knew his end was near and that he wouldn't last long. The pain was sometimes too much for him (from our old IRC private conversations) but he wanted to make the best of the times he had, and I had always admired him for that. Being handicapped and ill didn't stop him from doing more than what an able man would have been able to do.

About the ed2k scene to which he contributed to, he was the best in what he did - which were the games releases and his famous IPFilter. I do hope someone at least half as worthy as him would continue to carry on the torch and not let his efforts die a slow death.

With these words, I sign off. RIP dear friend, associate, P2Per and a passionate individual. You will be sorely missed.

May the tears I shed as I write this wash away your wounds..

Very weird... This past weekend, for some strange reason, I was thinking about the fact that I had never heard of someone on a p2p site who was critically ill or who had died, and I was wondering if we would even find out about it.

I could not believe it when I saw this topic, less than 24 hours later.

I can't imagine the pain that his family and friends are going through.

R.I.P. Lord_Anubis.

I'm sorry but LA was very strict on who he let know he's real name, so I don’t feel right disclosing it even after his death either.
Even most people inside ShareTheFiles didn’t even know his real name.
I can tell you this much; he was 23 when he died.

I also thought of that, I think a few weeks ago, and I think you will only know when it happens to the more well-known people like L_A
