I see that you've added a new feature in the movies, TV series and other sharing threads!

Maybe it has been there a long time, but I just saw it. Nice one! :thumbs

I was a big campaigner for the thanks button in the attempt to stop thanks spammers from flooding the forums but was ignored. Maybe it was due to a profit/ad type of thing but I am glad it's here now :-)

How do you subscribe to a topic without saying thanks or something else in the forums? I`ve never been able to find a "subscribe" button.

There are two menus available in every topic where you can select "Subscribe topic" or "Bookmark topic".

On the top of every topic:

On the bottom of every topic:

And set up how you want to be notified in: User Control Panel ----> Board preferences ----> Edit notification options

The problem seems to be that once you post in a topic (like say thanks) the subscribe topic button is no longer available. But I guess that is correct so that posting automatically subscribes you. But for the last several months, I am not getting notifications on a lot of the shows I watch. I get one or two, then the emails quit coming. So I just say thanks again and get a few more emails.

Posting in a topic does not make the subscribe/unsubscribe menu unavailable.
Nor does posting automatically subscribe you, unless you have set that in your user profile.

And if you look at the previously mentioned Notification options, you'll see that you have to set "Notifications" for the events you want notifications for, PLUS email notifications if you want that. If you don't check BOTH boxes for an event, you won't receive any email notification. And if you haven't set your board preferences in several months, it means you have never done it, because the Notification options didn't exist last year.

You can easily check which topics you are actually subscribing to, by going to your User Control Panel ----> Overview ---> Manage subscriptions
If you think you are missing updates, you can go to the Portal and click "Subscribed" in your USER MENU to see if the topics actually has been updated.

The problem is that saying "thanks" multiple times in already active topics (which doesn't need bumping) means that you're not the only one receiving a "few more emails". Thousands of subscription emails are now sent out every week due to "thanks"-comments. Appreciation is nice, but the "thanks"-button was installed to provide a way to say thanks in already active topics without flooding other users' email, and so that moderators doesn't have to prune active topics over and over.

Edit:
Just to be absolutely clear, since it seems a handful of users are misunderstanding this feature:
It is not, in any way, a "karma"-extension replacement.

It is to be used instead of posting a "thanks".
Posting both a "thanks"-comment, and clicking the "thanks"-button counts as double-posting, ie spamming.
Both actions says "thanks", and both actions sends out subscription emails.

I was told about this only a few days ago.
I'm glad to see we can thank the poster.
