How to remove a Dodge Journey (Fiat Freemont) 2009 rear fascia/bumper?

Post by raffe » Fri Apr 28, 2017 10:00 am

Hi!

It looks somewhat like this
Image

I have taken away these plastic plugs (I only show one side), see red arrows, but it still is stuck about at the blue arrow.

I cant find any more plugs or screws, what am I missing?

No idea personally beyond that it may either have a retaining nut/bolt/something holding it in place. If you don't manage to get an answer here, may I recommened the Dodge Journey forum?

I find that swearing at stuff like that can help.
Might not move it, but you'll feel better.

#8 goes into #5 somewhere about the blue arrow i think.
just thinking from other fronts nd rears i have removed.
most are an 8 or 10 mm head, or a philips screw head.
you might have to look up from underneath to see it.

quick thought. could be behind the tail light too. i've done a few caravans.

@hrmwrm: Yeah, I thinks so also, but I can't find it. The thing is also that the bumper is just a month old and clean, so I cant understand that I can't find it. Will try again now with your moral support, tips, swearing, sledgehammer and a jackhammer. And if I try this, I will see better:

I have found one more screw, but it is still stuck. It seems like there is a black plastic thingy that holds it at the same place as before. See the pics.
Blue = Side of bumper
Yellow = Car
White: Black plastic thingy

Near the back wheel

Any ideas? Should the black thing come of the car or should the bumper come of the black thing?

Hi again!

I found the 2009-2010 Dodge Journey Service Manual (2.4L - 41TE & 3.5L - MPS6) in this thread:
http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/topic/ ... -35l-mps6/

I downloaded the file Dodge_Journey_2009-2010_1767.rar and in it I found these files:

So I seem to need to find the tabs and separate them :-)

sometimes there are pieces that "slide" together. makes pulling things straight away tough. may have to push in to release, then push down on the cover before trying to slide back.
only remove something that is the easiest way to replace. snap together is easier than rivets, etc.
unless unsnapping will break/destroy. rivets can be replaced by screws/rivets.
you're going about it the right way by taking your time and hopefully getting undone the best way.

unfortunately i can't think as to what is holding it, as i've no experience in your particular model.
but you've done everything you can to figure this out, which is trying to gain as much info as possible.
the rest is a careful look and try and figure just what you're dealing with for a mounting point. sure you'll have it by next post.

First I educated myself with these videos

Then I bought a tool like this

After that all went easily :-)
