Arctic Wonderland with Greg Grainger (1996)

Postby MVGroup » Mon Feb 04, 2008 6:52 pm

Arctic Wonderland

Culture, Travel Documentary narrated by Greg Grainger and published by Others in 1996 - English narration

Image

Information
------------------------------

The ultimate adventure in the frozen north, travelling from the Arctic Circle in Finland on a trip that ends close to the North Pole. This is documentary with a superb mix of adventure, characters and wildlife. The first encounters are with the colorfully-dressed Samis, Laplanders who celebrate their Arctic culture by catching and racing reindeer. Their celebrations include championships in which Samis have to demonstrate their skills with the lasso.

The action switches to an ice breaker as it smashes through the frozen northern seas. Modern Finnish maritime heroes demonstrate how they swim amongst the ice bergs for recreation. Traveling by dog sleds across Finland's frozen north takes us to isolated cabins, to experience the Finnish passion for taking hot saunas, then rolling in the snow.

There's even a meeting with Santa Claus, an employee of the Finnish post office who's supported by computer-equipped "helpers" to answer the thousands of children's letters that are sent to the North Pole. Midway between Scandinavia and the North Pole, the spectacularly beautiful islands of Svalbard are explored by skidoo. A lone Norwegian guide leads us hundreds of kilometres into the wilderness in pursuit of polar bears. Along the way, travel deep underground in an eerily beautiful glacier.

The program climaxes with the discovery of a healthy two year old bear, which turns on a brilliant performance in pursuit of seals. Repeatedly he leaps high into the air, crashing his body back into the ice, before breaking through. Unforgettable scenes as he catches the seal and feasts on it.

Heavenly Hawaii

Culture, Travel Documentary narrated by Greg Grainger and published by Others in 2003 - English narration

Image

Information
------------------------------

Greg Grainger discovers the mystery and allure of the islands of Hawaii in an expedition that embraces both culture and adventure. These days, Hawaii is undergoing a cultural resurgence, with Greg's mission to learn about the country's ancient ways that are now being revived with
such passion.

At a Festival of the Arts gathering on the island of Maui, traditional Hawaiian leaders go through a solemn ritual that culminates in a feast and performances of the hula. On the island of Kauai, he flies by ultra light and helicopter around rugged cliffsides, finding waterfalls made famous in the film Jurassic Park.

On the Big Island, he goes night diving with manta rays, rides with Hawaiian cowboys, finds snow and observatories on one mountain, and flowing volcanic lava on another. On Oahu, he sails in waters filled with humpback whales and spinner dolphins and boards a replica of the ancient canoes that carried Hawaii's first settlers.

Kiwi Magic - Ultimate New Zealand

Culture, Travel Documentary published by Others in 2003 - English narration

Image

Information
------------------------------

Capturing the scenic beauty, rich culture, quaint characters and high adventures of New Zealand. The adventure starts off on top of New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki Mount Cook, a place renowned for its scenic beauty and awesome adventures. Sea kayaking under and around glaciers, ice climbing high in the mountains, and land on fresh snow in a ski plane. On Stewart Island we go in search of the national symbol, the Kiwi, as it comes close enough to touch.

The adrenalin capital of the world, Queenstown, shows just how it's gained its title. Our helicopter guide "Choppy Pattersen" takes us from extreme to extreme, with jet boats narrowly missing cliff faces, to the world's fastest adventure ride (Fly By Wire). Finally we're escorted to Blanket Bay, one of the world's most luxurious lodges. We cruise through the visually spectacular Milford Sound in our ship the Milford Wanderer. Sailing alongside huge snow-clad mountains towering out of the ocean, with fur seals and waterfalls hanging off every corner.

On the wild west coast it's festive season in Hokitika. The annual Wild Food Festival showcases the most unusual foods and characters. Scorpions, seagull, grasshoppers, worms and local huhu grubs are served up for those game enough to try. The thermal wonderland of Rotorua displays active geysers, mud pools, sulphur craters and an active volcano which spits boiling mud hundreds of metres in the air. Our guide "Sonny"teaches a traditional Haka before receiving a taamoco, a traditional tattoo.

The Tongariro crossing is one of New Zealand's most famous walks. We explore the emerald lakes and sulphur vents in the harshest conditions possible. Take a step back in time to the 1930's in Napier, the Art Deco capital of the world. Vintage cars, motor bikes, planes, soap box derby's, dancing and fashion are shown to us by our 1930's guide, Bertie.

Polynesian Paradises with Greg Grainger (2002)

Postby MVGroup » Wed Feb 06, 2008 10:01 am

Polynesian Paradises

Culture, Travel Documentary narrated by Greg Grainger and published by Others in 2002 - English narration

Image

Information
------------------------------

Greg Grainger shows us that the islands of French Polynesia are just as seductive as back in 1788 when the crew of the Bounty mutinied after a teenage Tahitian beauty swam to the ship and slipped out of her clothes.

His modern-day journey begins by sailing around the rugged and isolated Marquesas Islands, the northern most group of what have been described as
the most exotic islands in the world, French Polynesia.

Greg explores seven different islands, traveling south from the Marquesas to the Tuamotos, and then on to the Society islands of Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti.

His adventures include:
* swimming with hundreds of baby sharks in the brilliant blue lagoons of Rangiroa,
* sharing a day with Marlon Brando¹s son Tehotu on their family paradise of Tetiaroa
* joining the divers of Manihi, where conditions are perfect for cultivating magnificent black pearls
* observing a strong cultural revival underway, such as the art of the tattoo.
* encountering over-friendly sting rays that slide all over him
* discovering the art of dancing Tahitian-style
* traveling with the modern-day warriors of the Marquesas.

Lords of the Wild

Nature Documentary narrated by Greg Grainger and published by Others in 2000 - English narration

Image

Information
------------------------------

Lords of the Wild: Fighting For Survival is a superb documentary, featuring every species of bears around the world, and their fight for survival.

Highlights include: Two towering polar bears engaging in a contest of intense energy. A giant grizzly tussles with her spring cub. Brown bears feast on spawning salmon. These are images that may seemingly show that bears, as a species, are thriving. But the truth is somewhat less attractive. The bare facts about the world's bear population are frightening. This programme will show that only the polar bear is surviving in sufficient numbers in the wild to make it relatively safe. Some of their darker cousins are staring extinction in the face.

Greg Grainger: Danger Down Under (2006)

Image

Information
DANGER DOWN-UNDER features characters across Australia who've developed very special relationships with the deadliest creatures on earth.

Doctor Adam Britton wrestles giant salt-water crocodiles every day for a living in the Top End of Australia. This special features amazing underwater scenes as he swims with a killer croc, then places his hand right down its throat to retrieve a shoe.

Diver Rodney Fox not only survived a frenzied attack from a Great White Shark off the Great Australian Bight, but has gone on to lead diving trips with the very creatures that almost killed him. In DANGER DOWN-UNDER, our cameras accompany Fox on one of his shark finding expeditions, capturing chilling images of a white pointer repeatedly savaging a tuna carcass.

Spidergirl Jacqui Adams-Maher collects and milks deadly spiders every day on Australia's East Coast. Giant funnel-web spiders pounce repeatedly as Jacqui collects them from terrified residents.

Snake-lover John Weigal specialises in such deadly Australian creatures as tiger and brown snakes. We watch him track them down in thick grass and waterholes, capturing them to milk for anti-venene.

Thrilling images, deadly creatures, risk-taking characters.
