Streaming movies/sport on television

Hello

Now I have a smart TV, I find streaming movies etc to be much more convenient. However, the UK courts have blocked many of the web sites I use. I assume the work around is to use a vpn service.

I have a free one one my mobile which works fine, but I do not know how to do the same on my Samsung TV. I assume I shall need to replace my BT router, with another router or get something to sit in tandem with it. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

This is all very new territory and as much of it is gobbledygook to me, I would appreciate any of your kind advice in the simplest terms please. TIA

This is not entirely clear. Why would you need a new router for vpn? Do you have any VPN service in mind?

As you have asked a general question, I will give a general answer

You will need
  1. A Proxy provider or a VPN provider that can give you a IP that works with the web site you want to use
  2. Have a computer or a router that connects to a VPN or a proxy
  3. Connect the TV to internet via the computer (network sharing) or the router
Problems
  • Find a good proxy or VPN provider that can give you the IPs you want to different countries
  • You may need to change IP when you want to change streaming provider (say site A only work in US and site B only in Spain) often via manually changing the DNS (given from the VPN/Proxy provider) on the TV (check that you can do it)
  • If you get a new router or use a PC with network sharing, and keep your old router, you need to make sure you only use one (1) DHCP (that gives IPs to your devices). So some of your devices may need to have static IPs or you need to run everything thru the router/PC.
Routers with built in VPN client
These routers can connect to a VPN according to https://www.unblocknetflix.co.uk/how-se ... router-uk/
