Have you guys been getting WAT popups saying that Windows is not genuine... ?? I get them once in a while after applying the crack... I can use everything and I have no messages on the program bar... just popup windows with the WAT message. ??

That's exactly the page I've been getting... although I don't get the black screen and everything runs normal. If I run removewat it says that I already applied the crack and only gives the "restore WAT" option.... I'll just leave it alone since everything is working fine.

I have used this and as it said it removed the kb971033 update. The only problem I have noticed is I am not getting anymore updates - even though I have the option to download updates and let me install, nothing happens. I see Windows Defender is updating without prompting me to install the update. Has anyone else noticed anything different with update.

works like a charm.I woke up with the black screen and windows not geniune message about 5 days ago,I installed remove WAT and boom back to normal. My updates are dowwnloading as they usually would and I have it set to let me choose what to install but beware with the WAT if you dont have it checked in the updae box and you restart windows will install it anyway thats how I got into this situation. But great crack it works fine for me

my 2 cents: did some playing around. IDEALLlY: DO NOT INSTALL KB971033 it is an optional update, and ths sould be a lesson to read the descriptions of the updates.
If you do install it, its busts loaders/ slic 2.1 mods seem to be safe. Even uninstalling kb971033 is no good, the bell has been rung. what to do?
1. do nothing, I saw no ill effects of the "Not genuine" other than annoying pop-ups on reboot, and no wallpaper (more info here would be good) now if it was like WPA getting popped (whene u cannot even login) well...
2. Run a WAT remover or the ChewWGA patch, problem here is they both currently work, but as soon as SP1 or even a well thoughtout update comes again, both of these are going to easily be busted. Differences> the remove WAT > under computer properties, there will be NO infor regarding activation the ChewWGA> will show activated.
so like i said ideally just avoid the update for now. but if you do use this or the chewwga, realize its only temporary.

UPDATE 2010-03-18 apparently the KB971033 update has disappeared. Those who have hidden it sday it is gone and those who were simply ignoring it now notice its missing.

It has returned, however can still be ignored when you want to. This however won't be the case for long, as rumor abound SP1 will contain this like it or not. Just to wait and see.

Hello, I did the kb971033 update by mistake, I got lazy, I guess. Anyway, I tried system restore,, no luck. Then I deleted the software distribution file but that did nothing. Then I downloaded WAT.2.2.5. SO FAR SO GOOD. But did I change or mess up my Windows updates because of deleting the windows software distribution file?

I installed the 32bit version and it was working fine. Today, I got a message when I started my PC that my copy of Windows is not genuine I will try the RemoveWAT and wish that will resolve the problem. Does anyone know another version of Win7 that really works? Thanks.

As with others, I updated (not Genuine Advantage - ain't I clever !!!!) and bingo: black desktop and message saying Windows is fake. Thanks to you guys, I ran Remove.WAT and everything seems to have returned to normal. Great Work
